Video Conferencing

In my media and technology course, we also discussed video conferencing. A video conference, according to Wikipedia, is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions simultaneously. It has also been called 'visual collaboration' and is a type of groupwar

In class, we used a video conferencing system called MAGPI. Our professor signed us up for a live session, where we were able to observe several elementary classrooms take part in an activity. We watched the students do a program with the Center for Puppetry Arts called Anansi the Spider: A West African Folktale. I found this experience very useful. I was a little unsure about how it would work or how effective it would be. However, the host at the Center for Puppetry Arts did a great job of managing all of the different schools and their students.

Watching the video conference taught me how effective and useful technology can be in education. I think it is an easy, direct way to differentiate instruction. I believe this method can reach all types of learners and keep them engaged. I really enjoyed learning about video conferencing and hope that I can implement it in my classroom someday.
